Was briefly looking at these and it appears that they are falling out of favor. The German Rheinmetall Oerlikon Millennium Gun looks formidable. The Phalanx seems to be a "stand alone" system, not needing power or fire control from the ship itself while it seems like all others due require "outside" power and fire control. It seems like the Phalanx effective range is only about one nautical mile, with "Goalkeeper" and the Russian system not much more farther. While Phalanx works as witnessed in the recent Mid-East confrontations I wonder if it would be effective vs the more recent Chinese anti-ship missiles?
