I've been browsing around the Bundesarchiv, and I found a very long technical work titled "Übersicht über die für die Marinegeschüße und deren Abk K zu vermendende Munition und ihre Einzelteile einschl Salut= und Manöberladung" M.Dv. Nr. 198 by Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine. This does not translate well into English, but basically it is an overview of Naval Shells including saluting and maneuvering types.
Anyway, most references that I have found say that the 40.6 cm Spgr. w/nose fuze was 4,4 calibers long, which is the same length as the Psgr. shell. This reference says that it was actually 4,8 calibers long. To me, this kind of makes sense as it has a large burster cavity compared to the Psgr. shell - 82.4 kg vs. 24.2 kg. As both were to the same weight of 1,030 kg and steel is of greater density than TNT, it would make sense that the Spgr. shell would be longer than the Psgr. shell. This is true of other German Psgr. and Spgr. shells of WWII.
Thoughts?
------------
Edit:
Just found that "German Capital Ships of WWII" by Whitley also calls it an L/4,4 but says that the length was 194.9 cm - which works out to 4,8 calibers! Zounds! Image may be NSFW.

So, I will change my datapage to say 4,8 calibers with a note stating why.
