In response to the WNT a comprehensive redesign was required to transform the G3 into a compliant ship. It was clearly deemed essential to retain the 9-16" main armament (though with some weight saving measures in the turrets), although the layout was changed. Some reduction in the secondary armaments was made. A reduction in deck armour thickness was accepted. The main concession of course was greatly reduced speed.
