The Air Forces • AI, radar signal processing and stealth.

Will AI solve the problematic detection of stealth aircraft? In other fields AI is helping with increasing accuracy, specifically raytracing, filtering and predicting render sample noise and providing increased resolution and fidelity - effectively giving you more visual information by filling in the gaps.

Raytracing is firing out rays to sample a 3d environment. These rays get returned to the sensor and a picture is described. The traditional solution to the problem of gaining more accuracy and more visual information is to fire more and more samples then brute forcing the calculations  which results in a clearer more accurate image.

Its basically guessing how to filter information and filling in gaps in a render of a 3d scene quickly. Note that Im not talking about AI art or using AI tools to generate pictures Im talking about accelerated realtime rendering which is replacing traditional deferred rendering.

I know radars differ from this but now we are firmly in an era of sensor fusion and multiple AESAs why wouldnt AI offer the same sort of benefits in this field of information enhancement? Whether its in predicting position based on a weak radar return or in building a highly detailed picture based on separate fragmented information. I see an AESA radar like a 3d camera sensor, it is gathering information on what it sees and its information is being processed, filtered and analaysed then presented to the pilot.
