When the Alaskas come up in discussion (no, not <that BC> discussion), it's often mentioned that they'd take on heavy cruisers, or planned super cruisers.
For taking on heavy cruisers, what would their doctrine, and success rate, be in doing so? Long / mid range? I assume 8 inch return fire starts causing problems for them at short range.
Would they try to take on 2 (or 3) Japanese heavy cruisers simultaneously? They don't necessarily have a speed advantage...
Would they fire SAP?
