Once thing is clear, Trump doesn't have a majority in the US House because his endorsed bill was solidly rejected, with 38 GOP members voting against it. With the GOP's make up after the new Congress seats, it's unlikely Trump gets a workable majority when the new Congress seats on Jan 3rd either.
Does anyone outside the US like to follow this drama? If I understand things right, this "shutdown" won't really be a shutdown, as the Treasury will continue things under "extraordinary measure" while political wrangling continues. As best as I understand it, most things will continue onward until roughly June of 2025.
Whatever else this shows, it does indicate that Trump doesn't have a lock-step party backing him in Congress, and they are more than willing to vote against his chosen path. At this point, a tyrant is pretty much out of the question.
