I've been looking at Royal Navy firepower in the area of vertical launch cells and it looks like the up gunning of the type 45 destroyers and in particular the arrival of the new frigates will mean a massive increase in power.
At the moment the type 23 ships each have 32 cells for Sea Ceptor. But if you quad pack them like you would with large cells then that's the equivalent of 8 large cells per ship.
The type 26 is going to have 24 of the American mk41 vls which is 24 large cells plus 48 Sea Ceptor in a mushroom field which is the equivalent if quad packed of another 12 large cells. So that's 36 cells per ship compared to 8 with the type 23.
The 5 new type 31 frigates will each have 24 of the American mk41 vls which is 24 large cells plus 24 Sea Ceptor in a mushroom field which is the equivalent if quad packed of another 6 large cells. So that's 30 cells per ship compared to 8 with the type 23.
Finally the type 45 destroyers are getting 24 Sea Ceptor in a mushroom field so the equivalent of another 6 large cells. So they go up from 48 to 54 large cells per ship.
6 type 45 at 48 cells per ship and 13 type 23 at equivalent of 8 cells per ship is 392 large cells.
6 type 45 at 54 cells per ship, 8 type 26 at 36 cells each plus 5 type 31 at 30 cells each is 762 large cells.
If we can crew these 19 escorts then we will be operating a force with roughly twice the missile firepower of our existing force even when that force still had all 13 type 23 frigates. In other words twice the power of the force we are busy replacing.
Team that with fully equipped carriers with say 30 fighters per ship in a war and with 7 Astutes and our 2030s navy might actually have some punch.
