Hello there.
I am researching the Argentine bidding process for Dreadnoughts battleships.
In the first competition, 1908-1909, the Ansaldo-Armstrong house offered three battleships ("B-Bis", "C-Bis" and "D-Bis") with double turret guns of 13.5 inches (343mm, presumably from Armstrong-Pozzuolli).
By saying "Bis" these designs mean that they are an alternative to the base design. The first, "B-Bis", is the alternative to a "B" design with 5 triple towers with 305mm/50cs guns, the second, "C-Bis" is the alternative to a "C" design with 4 triple towers with 305mm/50cs guns and the third, "D-Bis" is the alternative to a "D" design with 6 triple towers with 305mm/50cs guns.
These calibers were larger than the 12.0 inches (305mm) required by the Argentine Navy, so due to their eccentricity there do not seem to be any records available in the Argentine archives.
And the only information I have available about this 343mm caliber offered by the Italians, is that it could have been something described as a "Jacket ring tube. In attempt" (according to Weyer's Taschenbuch der Kriegsflotten, 1912).
For all of the above I wanted to know if anyone had more details available.
Regards
