Just quickly reading about what the Russians are developing in regards to their latest submarines, they seem to ignoring the X-plane stern designs which the West are now adopting. I can appreciate that the Borei class may have been designed a generation earlier, but their latest developments, i.e. the Laika class, are sticking with the traditional cross-stern design. It seems to me as though they're either adopting the policy of "don't change what works", or they haven't quite caught up yet, which I find very hard to believe.
