I watched this the other day on Tubi and got pretty much what I expected.
About the only parts they got right was the shark attacks on the survivors and the prosecution of Captain McVay.
One major problem I had with the movie was that Captain McVay, (played by Nicholas Cage), asked if the special cargo he was taking to Tinian had anything to do with the Manhattan Project. I seriously doubt a heavy cruiser Captain would be knowledgeable about a Top Secret project like that!
Also, Captain McVay knew about the Japanese Kaiten suicide torpedo, which I find highly unlikely.
Another issue I had was that after the sinking, the I-58 reported survivors when they sent their action report. This was probably put in to make the Japanese seem more compassionate/honorable.
One question I have is that if the Indianapolis had been given an escort, would I-58 still have attacked her?
